Rebuilding homes with SBP

During a period of over two years, I worked as an AmeriCorps member with SBP, a non-profit organization for natural disaster recovery. Our work primarily involved rebuilding homes in communities that were vulnerable to disasters. However, after completing some rebuilding projects, I realized that something was missing. I believe that the interior of a home should not only be functional and safe but also reflect the essence of a person's life. Unfortunately, many of the homeowners we served had serious health conditions, often caused by exposure to mold. Additionally, I observed that poor infrastructure in some homes led to unsafe living conditions. This experience led me to appreciate three critical design practices: designing with intention, sustainability, and resilient infrastructure, all while keeping human health in mind.
